The Top Five Characters A Psychological Thriller Book Has That Authors Often Include

By Shirley Roberts

A genre in literature that focuses on the psychological state of its characters is categorized under the thriller genre. This writing style is also often associated with Gothic literature and detective fiction because of having the same surrealistic elements. Aside from that, it also contains components of mystery, drama, action, and horror.

This genre of literature usually focuses on the reality, humanity and identity of the people. It will also talk about existential beliefs and the meaning of life. When fabricating such stories, authors usually have at least top five characters to use in a psychological thriller book to draw the readers in.

The people in a novel are important because without them, there is nothing to tell. Aside from a solid plot and good writing, the key to a good thriller novel is having a set of fascinating women and men to tell the story. Most novels will have two or three of them that play an important role and many others that have supporting roles.

The main character is usually the narrator and is considered the as part of the good side. Since most thrillers involve solving a crime of some variety, the main role is usually that of an investigator, a reporter, or vigilante. Sometimes, it can even be a regular woman or man who is being victimized by the antagonist.

Since protagonists are the most important people in these types of stories, they will usually have a set of people who are support their background. This includes a sidekick, partner in crime, or more conventional roles such as friends and family. These roles are created mainly to support the details concerning the protagonist.

Perhaps the only person in a story that is just as important as the protagonist is the antagonist. Without these men and women existing to create problems and create conflict, a novel will remain stagnant and nothing interesting will happen. Due to the nature of this genre, they are mostly assigned the roles of murderers, assassins, and gangsters.

Just like the main protagonist, the bad guy will also have her or his own henchmen to do the dirty work for them. They act as a support team to help their boss in achieving crimes and other evil acts that often times break the law. These people may or may not have speaking lines and are used to show the power and control an antagonist has in the world they are written in.

Love interests are even thrown into the whole mix sometimes to help further the plot in a story. Sometimes the lovers in the book are also a main character, and play a key role in the whole mystery. However, there are also instances where the author just wants to create a role wherein readers can relate to in their personal lives.

To sum it all up, without these people a good thriller novella would not be complete. They are essential because they help fabricate an interesting read that will captivate the attention of the readers. When in the process of writing any type of fiction, the author should always contemplate on making the best characters to fit their work.
