Things To Know About The Burden Of Gratitude

By Michael Anderson

Being grateful for something can mean many different things to different people, but it is hard to think of the act of gratefulness as a sort of pain or something that burdens us. While it is true that being grateful has many benefits, it is also true that there are some struggles and challenges that go along with it. There are many avenues to take in order to learn more about the burden of gratitude.

Sometimes the best way to understand more about a given topic is by exploring different novels where the theme is featured. Although these accounts are fictional, if a book is truly meaningful it can say things that can have just as much of an impact as something in the real world. Reading about the difficulties associated with gratefulness gives a person a chance to see things from a different angle.

Anyone who loves to read has probably heard of the great writer Jane Austen, but many do not know how powerfully some of her books portray the dangers of gratefulness being used abusively. A prime example of this is the book called Mansfield Park, which is centered around the character of Fanny. After coming into good fortune, Fanny is expected to show high levels of gratefulness, and it is in this way used against her.

It can be hard to feel grateful for something when the person's mind is filled with feelings of guilt that surrounds this gratefulness. Feeling guilty for the good things that one has been given in life is a common thing, and it happens for many different reasons. It is important to know that just because a person has been given good things is no reason to feel guilty because that doesn't actually make a person get proactive in giving back to society.

One of the difficulties with being grateful is feeling like every gift and favor must have something exchanged in return for it. A lot of people are familiar with getting a gift some someone and feeling like they should have gotten one for them. However, gifts and favors are things that are done for free.

Sometimes it can be hard for people to just accept help freely. This is because modern society makes people feel like when they get something, they must automatically give something back. This can make it so when someone does a simple act of kindness, the recipient can feel resentful.

There are times when it is hard to be grateful, and sometimes it can be used against a person. There are times when proactive measures can be taken, like writing a thank you card, making a simple phone call, or contributing to a local organization. However, for things that are out of a person's control, it is best to abandon the guilt.

It can be a difficult situation when a person does another person something generous and then expects something in return that is nefarious. Those types of situations are best avoided entirely. It is important to remember that just because someone did you a favor, you should not be expected to do something immoral.
