Tips On Self Empowerment Through Team Building

By Robert Hamilton

It is a fact that success requires the input of an individual and the working of a team. There is no way to separate individuals from a team or eliminate teamwork from the life of individuals and still achieve success. This is why experts have advanced the idea of self empowerment through team building. How can this be achieved?

Develop activities that implant new ideas into the minds of people. One of the ideas to dismantle is that success lies in a boss-servant relationship. Bosses must feel as complements of the workers and workers as participants in the overall success of an organization. Prepare participants to embrace new ideas and ways of doing things. This creates a new mindset that will be felt in all your activities in future. This will open a path for workers to make suggestions that will drive the organization to new heights.

Help participants to build trust. There is a feeling or element of fear whenever a boss is away. He might think that some responsibilities will not be handled professionally. Fellow workers might also not trust each other enough to share ideas and collaborate. This results in a disjointed organization. Find activities that will enable the team to develop greater trust in each other. It is through trust that the potential and capability of individual workers is revealed.

Teach your organization members on the need to support each other in the course of work. It is especially important for juniors to feel supported by the organizations they are working for. If their ideas are ignored or there is no involvement during decision making, they withdraw excellent ideas they may be having. This means that the organization will not be making the strides it is supposed to be making. A lot of employees and the entire organization will fail to live to their potential.

Recognize, encourage and reward people during the event as well as beyond. Building a team starts with a singular objective, but it is the contributions of individual participants that matter. Recognize people with talents or special skills and affirm their possible contribution. Those who have been extraordinary at work or during the event should be awarded. It encourages them to go an extra mile.

Create a positive spirit for individuals and the entire organization. This is difficult especially when negative things have to happen. Leaders must provide guidance and make effort to keep everyone on the positive lane.

Participants must be schooled on the need to collaborate or work together. Everyone has a contribution to make that would be impossible if everyone worked alone. Despite each having a unique job description, partnering is crucial. There should be an urgency to join effort and achieve a common goal. Collaboration enables an organization to achieve more, work faster and use fewer resources.

Individuals who are empowered will create organizations that are powerful. Though team building events are meant for the entire organization, there are vital lessons to be learnt for individuals. If individuals are not empowered in an organization, its foundations are weak and will not deliver success.
