Important Information On Sustainable Digital Printing

By Lana Bray

Digital printing is a way of creating images on various media, images that are digitally based. Compared to other methods, this format is much more expensive. It is usually done professionally using ink jet printers or laser. The good thing about sustainable digital printing is that plates usually involved in similar processes can be avoided to reduce the overall cost.

This form of technology has a big advantage in the fact that the images can be created on demand. It is very fast and allows for images customization in line with customer preferences. With the on-going developments in technology service delivery is set to improve. For example, many users will be able to utilize offset printing for mass production.

For a long period of time, the industry has comprised 5 major types. These are relief, digital, planographic (offset lithography), stencil, and recess printing. The relief type uses what is known as letterpress and flexography. Offset lithography is the transfer of images from a plate to a paper through an intermediate medium. The photographic type, on the other hand, involves the use of plates made of rubber.

Although plates are not needed in this technique this may be a big disadvantage in the end. The main downside is the fact that the finesse in the final image is frequently lost. Materials are used in image production include, among others, marble, canvas, metal and pho papers. The materials are used for deposition of various colours of toner or pigments. The main disadvantage is that the toner does not adequately penetrate the medium and only forms a thin film on it.

Direct link between a computer image and the printer is called fine art ink jet printing. This method gives room for artists to have the final word on the quality and taste of their image production. It also has the advantage of providing a variety of outputs as either finished pieces or pieces that need further modification. Artists do not need to pay for plates or marketing and storage that comes with other types. However, it is much more expensive when using per print basis.

There is a new form of technology that uses paper media sensitive to laser and light. Images are printed using photographic developer processing. The main advantage here is that there is continuity of image tone and much more detail is visible. Since no lens is used in the production, the edges are not distorted.

Many techniques often require that fabrics are pre-treated with some chemicals before they are used. Urea is one of the most frequently used chemicals. It helps in the creation of more vivid colours. Its main downside is the fact that a lot of carbon dioxide is produced during the steaming stage. Sustainable options use a special kind of foam in place of the urea and hence are more eco-friendly.

these technology has very many applications. These include, among others, advertising, print on demand, fine art and desktop publishing. Variable data printing is a technique that helps users to have huge amounts of data in printed form. Users also have a chance to print photographic materials and make modifications as they wish. When choosing an option for sustainable digital printing, you will need to consider the pros and cons of each method.
