Suggestion For First Year Students

By Gene F.

Here are a few of the way I got through school. I had a hard time the entire time and my desire is to help you avoid my mistakes.

Try not to get into an intimate relationship. I understand that this might seem ridiculous, but some research have shown that people tend to lose their focus when they have relationship with the opposite sex. This can be difficult, but if you absolutely have to be in a relationship with someone, you should agree with that man or woman that you will help one another finish college faster.

Don't hesitate to take counseling sessions. Let's say that you've broken up with your girlfriend/boyfriend, or you simply have an insomnia. Don't be afraid to visit the mental health care center. There is nothing to be embarrassed of.

Do not rush through the pages of a textbook, hoping that you will somehow miraculously remember them. Some people have the tendency to aim for a certain number of pages every day. It is more important you understand the information.

Stretch out your assignments. This means that you should don't ever do your assignments on the very last day. Instead, develop a routine schedule for each project and devote some time to it. Also, try to jot them down on a computer and format them so that they look as professional as they can. This is an essential skill for your future career; there's no reason not to practice it even in school.

Save as much money as you can. Develop a practice of not wasting your money. Having extra cash stashed away is always a good idea.

Constantly take notes. Never write every little thing down; note only the things that are important and that can create an overall view in your mind when you do your studying from the notebook. This can take a few weeks to understand, but once you learn the skill of writing important stuff down, your class work will become a breeze for you. It took me 3 years to realize that; do not make the very same mistake.

Try to be involved in each class.

The first reason I'm telling you this is that the professor will not forget you. This is particularly important in university systems where you need to go through written, along with oral exams.

The second factor is that you should always keep from being confused, even when it makes you feel foolish to ask stupid questions in front of others. You should not be anxious to ask any question to put an end to your confusion.
