An Overview Of New Age Philosophies

By Andrea Davidson

To get an understanding of new age philosophies, it is important to know that the present- day cosmic humanist movements have their roots in romantic poets of the 1800s. Examples of the poets include Ralph Waldo Emerson, Walt Whitman and Henry David Thoreau, who do not accept God of the bible. They instead choose to make lengthy writings concerning the quality of inspiring spirituality that is felt mostly through personal introspection.

The writing by these poets did not attract attention until the 1960s. Some of those who contributed to this included film stars, eastern gurus and popular music artists, who made the new age ideas public across the world. Most recently, popular musicians like Madonna have joined the Hinduism religion, with other embracing Zen Hinduism openly, like Phil Jackson. Tom Cruise, John Travolta as well as other well known film stars have shown belief in Scientology.

Cosmic humanist ideas are now disseminated widely through television programs, bestselling books and films. New Age Philosophy is not in tandem with materialistic ideas as they do not explain or accept an all-knowing God. If the angle they view from is correct, and postulating that aspects of human existence are sacred, then every organism in the universe possesses a spiritual nature.

Human should be compelled to view reality from a supernatural perspective, if the spiritual life characteristics result in better consciousness or inner truth. This perspective is what leads cosmic humanists to non-naturalism philosophies that everything as we know it is supernatural. The philosophical position taken cosmic believers is that it is within a spiritual measurement that ultimate reality exists.

Cosmic humanists are of the opinion that all reality is God, from the nine planets to the smallest particle. This belief is reflected by their philosophy by focusing on principles which have been put forward by scientists that views the planet earth and the universe as a whole as a living organism.

A New Age philosophy, like that of non-naturalism affects its epistemology as well as the ontology. On a basis of the knowledge theory, new age movement supporters put emphasis on why it is important for human beings to connect with their higher self. By connecting with the God-force within, people can instinctively get to know a truth without limits.

Whenever humans look within, they are likely to find the truth, the only difference being that it is not in a manner that people commonly understand. Going by cosmic humans, the truth happens to be a feeling or an experience and consists of what a person can know. Every human creates their truth according to particular principle that goes like if something feels like the truth, most likely it is. The entire knowledge exists in the god-force in humans, and they can tap into the knowledge by connecting with the force.

The ontology of the supporters of cosmic humanism branches a certain philosophy that is not naturalistic. The ultimate reality or substance is in the hands of Christ consciousness or God-force. God happens to be the core of existence, with all living things revolving around him. So many of the new age philosophies are monistic, the likes of Marxism, Leninism and secular-based humanism.
